The Pressure Myth

The Pressure Myth

The Big Misconception: Gentle Pressure vs. Deep Pressure

A common myth is that reflexology requires intense, painful, or deep pressure on the feet to be effective. In reality, reflexologists do not use deep, heavy-handed pressure.

Reflexology relies on precise, light-to-firm contact aimed directly at reflex points. The goal is to send calm, restorative signals through your nervous system—not to dig into deep muscle tissue.

  • Normal Sensation: You may feel firm, comfortable contact or brief tenderness on sensitive reflex points corresponding to areas of tension in the body.
  • What to Expect: Deep, aggressive manipulation is neither necessary nor typical during a session. A session should feel deeply relaxing, gentle, and grounding rather than uncomfortable or painful.
